Founded in 2008, the Fondazione Toscana Gabriele Monasterio (FTGM) builds on the legacy of the Clinical Physiology Institute of the National Research Council and integrates clinical care and research in cardiovascular diseases within a multi-organ framework, including pulmonary, metabolic, neuro-endocrine, and renal disorders. Its hospitals in Pisa and Massa (Tuscany, Italy) host advanced imaging facilities and laboratories for bioengineering, computer science, molecular biology, genetics, and artificial organs.

FTGM is a national leader in interventional cardiology, cardiac surgery, and heart failure care. Its eHealth activities include AI and machine learning development, large-scale health data warehouses, electronic health records, interoperability standards (HL7, DICOM, OMOP), cybersecurity, data protection, patient-reported outcome systems, rare disease registries, advanced medical imaging, and telemedicine solutions for remote monitoring, tele-rehabilitation, and healthcare delivery in isolated areas.
