The Welsh Government, as the executive arm of the devolved administration, is answerable to the National Assembly for Wales, which legislates on behalf of Welsh interests.

The Digital Health and Care Wales (‘DHCW’) is a Special Health Authority focused on mobilisation and data accessibility to health professionals and patients, as well as integration, artificial intelligence (AI), and the adoption of best examples from other consumer-driven digital services. The importance of digital equipment and data in supporting Wales' health and social care services is highlighted in the services’ refreshed strategy announced in July 2023. The strategy includes key projects such as the NHS Wales App, electronic prescribing, AI for cancer diagnosis, and the Wales Clinical Portal, hence integrating patient data for accessible, efficient healthcare. This strategy builds on previous initiatives like "A Healthier Wales": it aims to enhance health services through user-centred digital solutions, better infrastructure, and innovative technologies, thereby ultimately improving healthcare delivery and accessibility in Wales. In January 2023 a chief digital officer was appointed to oversee digital health advancements.
