xShare Open Call 2026: 17 July 2026 Call for early adopters of the xShare Yellow Button

The xShare project, in collaboration with the European EHRxF Standards and Policy Hub, is proud to re-launch the xShare Open Call.

Who is the Call for?

This open call reaches out to early adopters of the xShare Yellow Button, to demonstrate readiness to implement the European Health Data Space (EHDS) regulation.

The call invites startups, Electronic Health Record (EHR) vendors, digital health app developers, and wellness platform providers to innovate by using the xShare Yellow Button concept – a one-click solution for individuals to share their health data securely across systems in Europe.

What practical materials are needed for submission?

Use the proposal form and materials (below) to submit your proposal by 17 July 2026 end of business. A helpful slide-deck and 15 minute video are provided to help you out.

What kinds of proposals are being sought?

The call seeks proposals that integrate the xShare Button into real-world healthcare or wellness scenarios, showcasing how one-time health data sharing can improve care delivery. Solutions should leverage the HL7 FHIR xShare Implementation Guides (IG) and involve the priority categories of personal electronic health data for primary use (EHDS Regulation, Art. 14) in the EEHRxF:

  • Patient Summaries (e.g. medical history, allergies, medications)
  • ePrescription and eDispensation records (digital prescriptions and their fulfillment)
  • Laboratory Test Results and reports
  • Medical Imaging and Reports (radiology images and their interpretations)
  • Hospital Discharge Reports (summaries of hospital stays)

In addition, this call invites applicants to propose solutions that share data related to Care Plans, a new data category for which the xShare project has created a new content specification in June 2026. See here.

These data categories correspond to the priority categories of personal electronic health data for primary use defined in the EHDS Regulation, Art. 14, and in the European Electronic Health Record Exchange Format (EEHRxF) (“the format”).

Here is an example of an innovative solution …

Innovative proposals may explore one-time sharing of personal health records via a Smart Health Link – a secure, time-limited link or QR code that encapsulates a person’s health data for easy sharing.

Smart Health Links are an emerging standard (based on HL7 FHIR) that increases portability of health information by enabling patients to share a package of their data through a verifiable link. For example, a patient might click the xShare Button to generate a Smart Health Link which contains their latest laboratory results, which they can then share with a specialist one time for a consultation.

xShare encourages projects to submit to the call that demonstrate novel data-sharing workflows like these in compliance with privacy and security best practices.
