XX European Patients’ Rights Day: “Empowered citizens, personalised care: a new era for prevention in Europe”
On 12 May 2026, the 20th edition of the European Patients’ Rights Day will take place at the European Parliament in Brussels, with the possibility to join online. Participation is subject to mandatory registration.
This milestone edition will focus on a key and timely priority for Europe’s health systems: personalised prevention.
Personalised prevention represents a transformative opportunity to improve health outcomes, support earlier diagnosis, and build more sustainable and resilient healthcare systems. This year’s event will also highlight personalised prevention as a fundamental component of patients’ rights, building on the Right to Preventive Measures outlined in the European Charter of Patients’ Rights.
The discussion will address key enabling factors, including health literacy, data protection, trust, equity of access, and citizen engagement. Particular attention will be given to how European institutions and stakeholders can contribute to making prevention an actionable and enforceable right across Europe.
The programme will feature keynote interventions, expert exchanges, and a multi-stakeholder roundtable, bringing together representatives from European institutions, research, industry, and patient communities to reflect on both opportunities and challenges.
